The Twig

There seems to be a fascination with big fish. Across the globe, it’s a goal of many to seek out the largest of a said species on a regular basis. I’m not going to lie, this desire is embedded within me too, often yearning to go one better or achieve a personal best. At the…

Yow: Icelandic for Yes!

Iceland has taunted me for years. It’s endless adventure, fly fishing, culture, landscape, aurorae and surfing is stuff of legend. Last year, iheartthefly contributor and good mate Paul Anderson headed to Iceland for good times and crazy vibes and basically rubbed it all over my face (you can read his report HERE). This spurred me…

The River Sessions

I’ve been enjoying some marvellous river sessions over the past month or two, with some being successful in terms of fish catching and other sessions proving more joyous in relation to company, insect hatches or new discoveries. Hawaii DIY

So its winter in Tassie at the moment, and all the trout fishing rivers are closed, there’s not much to do during the winter months apart from tie up a few flies or brave the snow and ice and head to the Great Lake for a flick. However there are a couple of other options…

Tense Moments

That period of time, between the moment the fish is hooked until it is landed. Half of the work has been done and perhaps, half the satisfaction achieved. I guess each anglers desires are as diverse as their personalities. For me, the take is very special – knowing that you have fooled the fish with…

Pic of the Day…

A recent caenid mayfly hatch at first light saw a quite a few of them in a spot of bother. If I had to guess, I reckon these little guys were a size #26-#28 and some of the smallest mayfly I have seen. I thought they were midge until a closer inspection!
