Only The River Knows

These guys are dead-set fucking legends. If they were in close proximity to me I may wish to touch them on the fly rod. In my mind we are freinds. In reality we are strangers. I will continue to stalk them twice daily until they accept my offer to sit down, have a couple of hundred cold beers, perhaps a dirty burner, go fishing and talk shit.

Only The River Knows is a film set mostly in New Zealand but also Australia, Norway and Sweden and sets the bar bloody high in relation to quality and innovation. You may recall these guys from ‘Backyard in Nowhere’ and if so, you know you are in for an epic adventure. I could rant on about how good this is going to be but really, check the trailer then buy the film and sit down with a bunch of good mates and have a right ‘ole blast. To purchase and to find out more info, click HERE

Also – Here is some background info on the project and how they attempted to get it off the ground. Did you throw them some coin? I did!

Anglers Alliance Tasmania

We are incredibly fortunate in Tasmania to have a resource known as Angler Access. These are a bunch of dedicated beats and access points formed and maintained with the angler in mind. Much of this access is located on privately owned land and through the work of Anglers Alliance, both Tasmanians and visiting anglers have a myriad of fishing options without becoming baffled by laws and legalities.

Anglers Alliance Tasmania Inc. (AAT) was formed in January 2006 as the peak body representing the interests of all Tasmanian fresh water anglers. The core aims of the Alliance are reflected in their goal “Through the representation of all anglers, ensure the realization and maintenance of the full potential of the fishery.” They work closely with the IFS and play a significant role in providing them with angler views and suggestions and act as a catalyst between fisheries management and all State and local Governments. The Alliance operates on behalf of all anglers, without fear or favour of any group or entity and views all decisions on the basis of “Tasmania and Tasmanians first.”

Be sure to jump onto the newly revamped site and have a look around. You can even check the webcams to see how some of the more popular waters are looking before sneaking off…

Camden Fishing

Camden Rivulet is a wonderful stream nestled in the hills of the North-East of Tasmania and is surrounded by tantalising little drains and youthful headwaters. I would like to share some exciting news of a local business whose namesake in born from this very water and whose passion is fly fishing.

Introducing Camden Fishing. These cats have done their homework and it seems that the lingering interest of fly fishing has ultimately become the driving force behind this business venture and the subsequent quality they produce. From T-shirts and caps to fly boxes and Tasmanian hand-made leather bags – This is a void that has been begging to be filled in Tasmania and we can expect some exciting times ahead for Camden Fishing. Please be sure to explore their website and salivate with me over their products. (Cleanse afterward).

Dam Nation

A captivating trailer that gives you a small insight into the controversial dam debate in the Unites States. Stopping environmental flows and preventing the upstream spawn, but providing power and holding back decimating floods. Has the damage been done or can it be undone?

Brothers on the Run

Snowboarding, surfing and fly fishing non-stop for six months. Gotta be dreaming right? John and Eric Jackson, two professional snowboarders and brothers embark on the adventure of a lifetime by driving 15,000 miles from Alaska down to the southern tip of Chile on a journey to ride mountains on the top and bottom of the Americas and discover what’s in between. Sounds epic hey – Check out the IMAGO website for regular updates.

HATCH – An Extraordinary Fly Fishing Film

I recently sat down with a cold beer to immerse myself in the highly anticipated film HATCH by Gin-Clear Media. In fact, by the time I plonked myself on the couch and watched the first scene a replacement beer soon followed – Such is the thirst this film creates.

HATCH documents some of the most amazing insect hatches from across the world, from the salty shores of New Zealand, the sight fishing in Tasmania to Slovenia, Poland and the birthplace of fly fishing – the chalk streams of England. While this film is primarily a fly fishing narrative, HATCH would captivate a variety of audiences – especially the wildlife documentary aficionado’s and passionate naturalists.

HATCH encapsulates not only the exquisite surrounds in which fly fishing takes us but also the magical micro-world we are exposed to. Each scene gives the viewer a glimpse of the individual passion and culture behind each phenomenon and what draws the angler to it. The underlying tone reveals that the fly fisher invariably becomes a dedicated advocate for the environment and the fish.

The footage itself is simply off the Richter scale and I cannot think of a fishing film that matches the crisp, clear quality that Nick Reygaert captures – give that man an Oscar and while you’re at it, throw a nomination up for Greg French for his David Attenborough-style of narration!

While there’s bound to be hundreds of significant and unique hatches that occur across the globe, my realist side tells me this is but a sample captured during a certain time-frame and these are the events as a result. I’m hopeful of a HATCH 2 or even a mini-series but I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Congratulations to the Gin-Clear team, IMAGO and FlyLife on an ‘Extraordinary Fly Fishing Film’ that the whole world can gain pleasure from.

Imago – Amphibian Light Boot

Just imagine busting out your own lyrics while wearing these Imago rippers…

“Imago fishin’ - I’m on a boot accquisition, Imago keeps me in an upright position

Stompin’ in the dirt and hackin’ through the water, but I ain’t any typical tackle hoarder

Slayin’ ample fish while you’re kickin’ up your heels, Imago gets me some boots to match my reels

Foot-rot, foot-soldier, rock-snot, days colder dissin’ all the haters

Imago gets me some boots to match my waders….”

Anyway, I’m an idiot. Check out the clip though, yo.
